Lubricate the O-ring gasket on the new filter with your finger and some of the new oil. Install the new oil filter and turn it clockwise, as tight as you can, by hand. Turn the filter 1/2-turn farther with the large filter wrench.

Remove the drain pan carefully from beneath the truck. Raise the front of the truck off the jack stands, then remove the jack stands from beneath the truck completely. Lower the truck to the ground.

Remove the oil fill cap from the engine compartment. Insert a large funnel into the oil fill hole. Pour the remaining oil from the three containers into the oil fill hole. The 2003 Ford 6.0-liter turbo-diesel engine requires 15 quarts of oil when changing the oil and filter. Install the oil fill cap back onto the engine.

Turn the ignition key in the truck to the accessories position. Wait until the orange coil plug light goes off. Start the truck engine and step out of the truck. Kneel next to the driver's door, and visually inspect under the truck for any leaks. If you hear a sudden hissing sound, or see oil puddling underneath the truck, shut the truck off immediately. Recheck the oil filter and oil drain plug to ensure they are both tight. Top off the motor oil, as needed.
